When USCIS receives and approves an immigration petition for the type of visa you are applying for, the National Visa Center (NVC) will schedule an interview for most immigrant visa cases. NVC forwards all documents and approved immigration petitions received by the applicant to the embassy or consulate where the interview is scheduled.

Immigrant visa process
When submitting an immigration petition (I-130, I-140, I-360, etc.), if you choose to go through the visa process instead of applying for adjustment of status in the United States (I-485), after the immigration petition is approved, the USCIS will send the approved petition case to the National You will be transferred to the Visa Center (National Visa Center “NVC”). This process is currently taking approximately 2 months.

When the NVC transfers the case, it checks to see if the immigration door is open and then sends the immigrant visa fee invoice to the person concerned and the lawyer by email. Remember and check the email address you wrote on your immigration petition to ensure you don't miss a call from the NVC.

After paying the immigrant visa fee, you must prepare and submit the visa application and documents, which are the first steps in your immigrant visa case. After submitting the documents, NVC reviews them for about 2-3 months. If there is no request for additional documents for the submitted documents, NVC will contact the U.S. embassy, and when an interview is scheduled, the case will be transferred back to the embassy. This period also generally took 2-3 months, but due to the corona situation, there were many delays in interviews, especially job immigration interviews.

When the interview schedule is set, you must apply for another criminal investigation record report as instructed by the embassy, and undergo a medical examination at a designated hospital.

If you have been notified of your interview schedule by NVC, please follow the steps below to prepare for your interview.

Step 1: Read the notice from NVC carefully to confirm the date, time and location of your interview.
STEP 2: Get ready for a physical exam and vaccinations for your immigrant visa application.
Step 3: At the time of your visa interview, make sure that you have original copies of all documents required for visa issuance. All documents submitted to NVC will be forwarded to the consulate for the visa interview.
